Stay-cation day 6 – Final Day. Oddly the first battle of the day was spent wrestling and denying the automatic body clock which was assisted by a wrong number received on my phone while the mission of brewing today’s first pot of coffee is in order means only one thing … time to get up! ¶ In no time at all I will be the only one casting a shadow around here as each of the girls will be wearing an apron, a swimsuit and/or mastering spreadsheets as the day goes finally leaving an opportunity for “mischief” to finally show himself and let me know what I have in store for the final day of this brief, but extremely relaxing stay at home vacation. ¶ The menu for the evening has already been mapped out, I was thinking of making another cornbread, perhaps a smaller one for tonight’s dessert. ¶ Wednesday at home is completely strange but this week has certainly been a welcomed one. As Logan outfitted herself for her bicycle ride into work this morning our pleasantries included what a great time the two of us were able to spend with each other including yesterday’s odd sighting of a van fire on Kentucky Avenue. After a wonderful lunch we walked over to the tattoo parlor to get her nose pierced and upon entrance we both learned her piercing would not be happening this afternoon due to the amount of business already in place. As we walked around the corner onto Kentucky we could barely see through the amount of smoke out front of Copperfield’s Book Store and after realizing my car was not the one on fire we continued down the street for a further look. A van in front of the book store had flames streaming out of both driver and passenger windows and the Petaluma Fire Department was already on scene extinguishing the flames. My car was parked directly across the street, as are a number of other businesses but due to the quick and professional response from PFD there was little to worry about. This entire event lasted about sixty minutes which gave Logan plenty of time to check up on her ticket for the book signing and appearance from Chris Colfer of GLEE fame this evening. Oddly enough the van fire took place right next to the spot reserved for Mr. Colfer’s limousine and this was about the last thing Copperfield’s needed only a few hours leading to the big event. Logan was able to meet up with some school friends during all of this and I stood by quietly observing PFD and the tow truck operation. Quite the afternoon nonetheless. ¶ It’s now just past noon and the cornbread has been made and is now resting for its’ place on the dinner table for tonight’s dessert. A fresh haircut at Art’s out of the way and a wager with my oldest daughter on the Olympics has been made and won. Dinner at her favorite local Thai restaurant is on her before she heads east. ¶ A perfect way to end this little stay-cation – one in which I have enjoyed sharing with you.
